The Diocese of Katakwa

About Us

Saint Ignatius of Antioch, a disciple of John who was martyred in 107 A.D. wrote, ‘Where the bishop is, there is the church.’ The bishop, the successor to the Apostles consecrated in succession by the laying on of hands, is the leader of our diocese. He is the chief Pastor, Teacher, and Priest to all of our people. As the Apostles ordained others to minister with them, so our bishop ordains qualified men and women to assist him in carrying out the great commission and minister to the needs of our congregants.

Under his direction we find our mission statement in the words of Isaiah, chapter 61,

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound [KJV]

We are a convergence community, meaning that we celebrate the three streams of historic Christian faith:

The Evangelical

As a precious possession of Christian faith, we hold to the Holy Scriptures as the inspired, infallible Word of God and that they contain all things necessary to salvation and godly living. We are committed to faithful reading, studying, teaching, and preaching from the Bible as a wellspring for spiritual maturity. We also embrace the Evangelical distinctive that underlines the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a holy life, evangelism, and missions.

The Charismatic

A distinguishing mark of the Diocese of Katakwa is our openness to the work of the Holy Spirit. God's people have always been a spiritually gifted people. From the apostles all the way through modern Pentecostal and Charismatic movements, Christians have been endowed with power beyond themselves ...from the Holy Spirit Himself. This means we not only allow, but anticipate, His presence and working through His spiritual gifts, both in our worship and daily acts of service.

The Liturgical

Liturgical worship calls us back to our roots in the primitive Church.  We affirm the historic creeds of the early  One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church (the word catholic means ‘universal;’ teaching and believing those things which were from the beginning). From the richness of our historic heritage we are currently seeing a recovery of the beauty and authenticity of the ancient liturgies, symbols of worship, and the regular celebration of the Holy Communion, which the early Christians observed every week [Acts 20:7].

Ecclesiastes 4:12 tells us that a cord of three strands is not easily broken. We celebrate these three strands of historic Christian faith and practice, informed by the Word, empowered by the Spirit and formed by Church tradition.
